A large dog eats a lot. According to Imby, a dog of 40 to 50 kg soon gets through half a kilo of kibble a day. At those amounts you want to know what goes into the bowl. Imby Maxi is made for adult dogs from 35 kg, with insect protein as the base.

The kibble is larger than Medium's, and the recipe holds relatively less protein and fat: 25% crude protein and 13% crude fat, which comes to 3,643 kcal per kilo. According to Imby, that suits the larger body of a big dog. The bag holds a mix of three kibble types, one of which is baked in the oven with olive oil, oregano and thyme.

The protein comes from mealworm larvae, together with naked oats, sweet potato, peas and rice. Imby describes the food as complete and hypoallergenic. The bag is made of mono-plastic, fully recyclable according to Imby. Imby is a Belgian brand that makes its food in Belgium.

Build up Imby over seven days, as Imby recommends. On days 1 and 2 a quarter of the daily portion is Imby, on days 3 and 4 half and on days 5 and 6 three quarters. From day 7 you give only Imby. With a large dog the portions are big, so weigh both foods to keep the total amount the same.

Feeding tips

Always provide fresh drinking water. Switch over seven days and keep an eye on the stools that week. Large dogs eat large portions: split the daily amount into two meals and let your dog rest for a while after eating. Keep the bag well closed in a dry place.

How much do I feed per day?
Imby recommends 437 to 482 grams for a dog of 35 to 40 kg and 734 to 811 grams for a dog of 70 to 80 kg. The full table is on this page.
How long does a 5 kg bag last?
A dog of 40 to 50 kg gets 482 to 570 grams a day according to Imby. A 5 kg bag then lasts about nine to ten days. The 1.5 kg bag is mainly handy for trying it out.
How is it different from Medium?
According to Imby, the difference is in the kibble size and in the protein and fat content. Large dogs eat more and need relatively less protein and fat. That's why Maxi has a larger kibble and 25% protein and 13% fat, against 26% and 15% for Medium.
My dog isn't a year old yet. Can he eat this already?
For puppies up to 12 months Imby makes a separate puppy recipe. If you're unsure when your large dog can switch, ask your vet.
