A medium-sized dog soon gets through a good-sized bag a month. Then you want to know what's in it and where the protein comes from. With Imby Medium the answer is simple: the base is insect protein from mealworm larvae.

The kibble is about 14 mm and made for adult dogs from 10 to 35 kg. The bag holds a mix of three kibble types. One of them is baked in the oven at a low temperature with olive oil, oregano and thyme. Imby describes the food as complete and hypoallergenic.

The recipe contains 16% insect, with naked oats, sweet potato, garden peas and rice, plus small amounts of herbs, vegetables and berries. The analysis: 26% crude protein and 15% crude fat, which comes to 3,738 kcal per kilo. You choose between 1.5 kg and 5 kg. Imby is a Belgian brand that makes its food in Belgium.

Feeding tips

Always provide fresh drinking water. Switch over seven days and keep an eye on the stools that week. If you also give treats or chews, take them off the daily portion. Keep the bag well closed in a dry place, and check with your vet if your dog has health problems.

Questions

My dog weighs around 10 kg. Mini or Medium?
Either works. Mini has a kibble of about 9 mm, Medium of about 14 mm. If your dog prefers small kibble, choose Mini. The taste is the same.
How much do I feed per day?
Imby recommends 166 to 225 grams for a dog of 10 to 15 kg and 379 to 430 grams for a dog of 30 to 35 kg. The full table is on this page.
How long does a 5 kg bag last?
A dog of 20 to 25 kg gets 280 to 331 grams a day according to Imby. A 5 kg bag then lasts around 15 to 18 days.
Why insects?
Imby uses mealworm larvae as the protein source. According to Imby, insect protein contains all ten essential amino acids a dog needs and is easy to digest. Imby also says it operates carbon-neutrally.
