A puppy grows fast in his first year, and what goes into his bowl matters. This Imby kibble is made for puppies up to 12 months, with insect protein as the base.

The protein comes from mealworm larvae. Imby describes the food as complete and hypoallergenic, with a smaller kibble than the adult recipes. The bag holds a mix of two kibble types. One of them is made with oregano and thyme and baked in the oven at a low temperature.

It also contains sweet potato, naked oats, rice and peas, with small amounts of herbs, broccoli, spinach and berries. With 28% crude protein and 18% crude fat, this recipe has the highest protein and fat content in the range. A bag holds 1.5 kg. Imby is a Belgian brand and makes its food in Belgium.

If your puppy has only just left the breeder, give him a few days to settle into his new home before you change his food. Then build up Imby over seven days: on days 1 and 2 give a quarter of the daily portion as Imby and the rest as the old food, on days 3 and 4 half, on days 5 and 6 three quarters. From day 7 your puppy eats only Imby.

Feeding tips

Always provide fresh drinking water. Build up the new food over seven days and keep an eye on your puppy's stools that week. Keep the bag well closed in a dry place. If you're unsure about the amount, or your puppy grows too fast or too slowly, check with your vet.

Until when do I feed this puppy food?
Imby makes this recipe for puppies up to 12 months. After that you choose Mini (1 to 10 kg), Medium (10 to 35 kg) or Maxi (from 35 kg), to suit your adult dog's weight. Make that switch gradually too, over seven days.
How much do I feed per day?
Imby works from your puppy's weight. A puppy of 6 to 10 kg, for example, gets 95 to 184 grams a day. The full table is on this page. Weigh your puppy regularly, because the portion changes with every kilo.
Is this food hypoallergenic?
Imby calls it hypoallergenic, because insect protein is a new protein source for most dogs. If your puppy has a diagnosed food allergy, read the composition on the bag first and check with your vet.
